The Gozo NGOs Association, representing a number of sport organisations, said in a statement today that it is in favour of a Public Swimming Pool in Gozo.
The Association noted that sports in Gozo should not be given a “second class treatment, nor the Gozitan Citizens.”
“Gozitans; children, youths, adults and seniors as well as athletes,” the Association said, “should have the possibility to have a pool facility in Gozo. This will able the mentioned category of people to integrate in this particular sport.”
It added, “as everyone knows this will not only be beneficial for the sports enthusiast, but also for those people that, under medical advice, need to swim because of their health.”
The Association pointed out that “Gozitan Athletes are working very hard to achieve their goals. A swimming sporting facility would not only help swimmers, sport clubs and teams to do therapy in their daily routine, it will also open a new niche for both domestic and foreign tourism, as happened when the diving niche was introduced in Gozo, which is today one of the strongest markets for tourism on the island.”
“It is the view of the Gozo NGOs Association to support all identities who are willing to invest in, and improve the sports facilities available in Gozo, therefore enabling the island to become a tourist destination in Sport Tourism,” the Association concluded.
