The Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, together with the Minister for Family and Social Solidarity Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, have visited the ongoing maintenance works at the Tac-Cawla housing estate in Victoria.

The Ministry for Gozo said that the works will benefit 16 families, with an average investment by the Ministry per family of € 800.

“This area has been left in a state of abandonment for the past several years, the Ministry said, “leading to a degrading and distressing qaulity of life for those living in the apartments.”

It added that “since the beginning of this legislature the Government has listened to the needs of these residents, and for the past three months work has been taking place on the landscaping and maintenance in several areas.”

In his address during the visit on Saturday, the Minister for Gozo stressed that his Ministry remains open to listen to the needs of the residents in the area.

Having identified three other blocks on the estate, Dr Refalo said that the Ministry is committed to continuing the work of landscaping and maintenance in this area.

On her part Minister Coleiro Preca, spoke about “the suffering and the sense of social exclusion” that she said was felt in this area.

She pointed out that on her last visit to the housing estate the communal areas of the blocks were dilapidated, with a lack of security for residents.

Now, the Minister said, we have a number of families whose children are living in a more secure, dignified and clean area. ‘”We have given dignity back to these families, said Minister Coleiro Preca, “but it will not stop here.”

The Ministries both said that they will continue to work together on these tasks.
