‘Sustainability Starts with the Family’ is the theme of the consultation meeting which was held between EkoSkola students and H.E. President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
The meeting was held in Gozo for students from EkoSkola Schools. Students had the opportunity to discuss various issues on the theme and then present their concerns and observations to HE The President of Malta.
A number of Gozitan students showed their desire to spend more time with their parents, to which the Presidents said that much greater visibility should be given to the needs of the Maltese family in order to continue to strengthen society.
Other students lamented the fact that there were very few facilities available in Gozo where they could spend their leisure time.
Another concern highlighted by the students was the lack of opportunities for Gozitans on the island, making it necessary for youths to travel to Malta, or even abroad to find employment.
“Something else that is leading to isolation,” the students said, “is technology, despite the positive effects from it, we also marginalise people who end up dependent on the digital world.”
On this point the President spoke of the importance of facilities in which Gozitan families are able to spend time together, to enrich their physical, as well as mental health. President Coleiro Preca added that we are all a product of the environment, therefore it is crucial that parents find the time to pass these values onto their children.
This consultation meeting which was held at Gozo College Boys’ Secondary was organised in collaboration with Forum Nazzjonali Familj
