Gozo Live has announced that it is hosting the launch of Sheryl Loeffler’s book of poetry, ‘A Land in the Storytelling Sea.’ These poems were inspired by a year spent on Malta and Gozo. Sheryl will talk about her work and read from the book.
Sheryl Loeffler is an American/Canadian writer and musician. She holds degrees from Wittenberg University and the University of Waterloo. She also pursued doctoral studies in Renaissance Drama at the University of Toronto.
During the 1990s, Sheryl served as senior writer at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Telecollege Productions Inc. Her 12 half-hour scripts on Canadian Political Science were produced and aired for several years on TV Ontario. Her poetry has been published in literary magazines in Austria, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
In April 2005, Sheryl jumped off the edge of her known universe to live and write in Malta for a year. Malta has inspired this book, ‘A Land in the Storytelling Sea.’ Sensual, artistic, even prayerful, these poems by Sheryl Loeffler deepen into a land of legend and myth, an island populated, past and present, by saints, beggars and pirates, all of whom are blessed by “vivid geometries” of light. Sheryl Loeffler portrays Malta as a country awash in splendour and contradiction, “this land where Christians call God Alla.”
The book launch will be held in St Ursula’s Hall in the Citadel in Victoria, next Wednesday, the 21st of May at 7.00pm for 7.30pm.
Copies of the will be available for sale and the author will sign them. Entrance is free and everyone is warmly invited to attend.
