The Gozo Greyhounds Sports Club met on Saturday morning, when organiser Louis Debattista, with 5 youngsters, went out for a 25km bike ride from Qala to Nadur, Ramla, Xaghra, Marsalforn, Victoria and back to Qala in just 3 hours!
Then on Sunday a group from the club met in Qala and went for an enjoyable hike which took them from Qala to Zewwieqa, Louis said “there is so much rubbish and recyclables in some areas – places that we cleaned about 5 months ago.”
He added that “it is discouraging to see- even the kids were asking why after we cleaned here not so long ago, is there so much rubbish?”
“It is time for the Government to do something about: no littering signs, enforcement and fines.” Louis said. “Stop littering the island, it makes me sad that people here care so much about their own house or field but don’t care about their street, neighbourhood or countryside.”
The kids had a great time and we are hoping to do it again next Sunday (a hike for fun, not a cleaning hike) starting at 3:00pm by the Qala Local Council office. All are welcome, just be sure to bring plenty of water to drink,” Louis said.
