The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses President Paul Pace has said in a statement today that although the Union has issued several memos regarding the lack of carers within the Gozo General Hospital, the Health Division has still not addressed the situation which is affecting the service to the patients and the problems to the staff at the hospital.

The Union said that directives were issued last month, but it is “clear that the management of the Gozo General Hospital together with the Health Division have allowed the vacancies of at least 22 carers to persist.”

MUMN thanked the Minster for Gozo Dr. Anton Refalo, who, the Union said, “immediately provided the necessary funding for carers, so that the management at the GGH could address this alarming situation.”

“It is a pity that the efforts of the Minister of Gozo and MUMN were lost in some bureaucratic process,” the Union said.

“MUMN will be issuing further directives today in Gozo General Hospital, so hopefully the Health Division and the management in Gozo General Hospital address the situation …not with words but by providing 22 carers in the wards of the hospital.”
