‘Nehduk Ghawdex’ is the name of a scheme for the elderly launched recently by the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing, in collaboration with the Gozo Tourism Authority.
The aim of the scheme is to tempt elderly residents of Malta on a 4-day visit to Gozo, with the opportunity to stay in a hotel of their choice from a selection offered in the scheme. This initiative also promotes a social and cultural field to the elderly, the Secretariat said.
Parliamentary Secretary Dr Justyne Caruana, thanked the GTA for their collaboration in the project, as well as the Gozo hoteliers, and owners of establishment in Gozo, for their participation and support of the project.
Dr Caruana added that this is also promoting Gozo as a safe and quiet place where older people can take a 4-day break.
Mr Joe Muscat, CEO of the Gozo Tourism Association, said that this is a way of strengthening tourism in Gozo, and it is through these schemes and programmes that more elderly can be encouraged to visit Gozo.
Some of the activities organised during the 4-day Monday to Thursday break, include a visit to the craft village, the Karmni Grima museum in Gharb, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, Nadur Maritime Museum, Xewkija Rotunda and the Magro Food Village at Xewkija, walks, tombola, a ride on the Calypso Train, and much, much more besides.
