Listeners to this 12th edition of ‘Mill-Campus ta’ Ghawdex,’ the Gozo University Group’s radio programme, will be able to hear some interesting information about the history of Saint Joseph Chapel, which is situated within the Citadel, Victoria.

The Chapel of Saint Joseph was built in 1625 was the first Chapel to be dedicated to this Saint on the island of Gozo, and it was built on the site of another chapel dedicated to St.Nicholas of Bari which had been built right after Arab rule had ended early in the 11th century.

In his report of 1575 Mons.Pietro Dusina wrote that, “people flocked to that chapel with utmost devotion.”

Bishop Cagliares embellished the chapel with a beautiful altarpiece representing the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt, a work that is attributed to Filippo Paladino.

The painting now seen inside the chapel is a copy made in 1980. The original is housed in the Cathedral Museum.

Also on this latest edition of the radio programme, there are details on the biography of Mons Pawlu Cauchi and the poem ‘Bidwi’ by Mons Anton Gauci is read.

Mill-Campus ta’Ghawdex is aired every Friday at 8.30pm with a repetition the following Saturday from 12.30pm onwards on Campus FM 103.7 FM.
