Update: Postponement for Sunday 4th January hike due to weather conditions – Gozo-Rocks! hikes are putting out a challenge for people to join them on a hike around the perimeter of Gozo, which will take place over 3 days.

The hikes have been organised by Louis Debattista, of the Gozo-Greyhound Sports Club, and the first hike got underway this morning the 3rd of January, it was postponed from the 1st due to bad weather, they will also take place on the 6th and 11th of January.

All the hikes will be for around 6-7 hours Please wear comfortable shoes, a light jacket and take water and food. Meeting places for the three days are shown on the above poster.

Gozo College will give all students that participate a certificate for taking part in the challenge. Children must be at least 10-years of age.

Everyone is welcome to join, Louis said. “I encourage as many people as possible to join us. It costs nothing to join us on the hikes, and they help you stay active and healthy, making it a good start for the New Year!”

Louis has arranged transport so if you parked where the hike starts you will get back. “So polish your Hiking shoes and lets to this!”

The 53 children who took part in the Gozo-Rocks Clean and Green hikes in 2014 are being presented with a certificate by the Minister for the Gozo Dr Anton Refalo on Monday.

The Gozo Greyhounds Sports Club is an NGO run by volunteers, with parents making up the committee. The young members of the club in Qala meet regularly to train in running and cycling with Louis Debattista.

Update: Louis has advised that he has had to postpone today’s (Sunday) hike due to the strong winds with gusts at 50 mph. Tuesday’s weather looks good to continue as planned from Marsalforn to Qala. The route from Xlendi-Marsalforn will now take place next Sunday, the 11th of January, weather permitting.
