Following an in-depth study of all airports’ schedule analysis from CAPA, leaders in global aviation knowledge, in January 2015, the results show that Malta International Airport has the third most international connections among 136 airports in its class, with over 50 destinations served in its winter schedule.

“We are incredibly proud of this achievement, which shows that the hard work, in collaboration with the Ministry for Tourism and the MTA, is reaping results. Our strategy is to keep forging relationships with potential operators to welcome new routes and keep making Malta more accessible,” said ad interim Malta International Airport CEO Alan Borg.

Last year, the airport saw an increase of 6.4% in passenger traffic from 2013, hosting just over 4 million passengers by the end of the year.

“We will keep working on expanding our brand and increasing our destination network. We are looking forward to welcoming a few new airlines and routes this year, including Aegean Air to Athens, Finnair to Helsinki, Swiss to Zurich, and Jet2.com to several UK destinations,” said Mr Borg.

Malta International Airport is third among the Airport Council International’s European community of airports hosting less than 5 million passengers per year (Group IV). It is preceded only by Fuerteventura Airport (Canary Islands) and Belgrade (Serbia).
