The Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing, Justyne Caruana announced this during a press conference and explained how this campaign will be publicised on local media, as well as by the various activities that will be organised aimed at transmitting more information to the public about this condition
Dr Caruana also announced that the Government will be working to enhance the present Dementia Helpline which is operated by the Malta Dementia Society and which is currently available from 10am till 1pm, to one which is available 24/7.
She said that this is necessary to assure that the best dementia services are provided. She claimed that every person needing help can refer to this service every day and at any time, whilst also mentioning the “Contact a Professional” page on the website.
Justyne Caruana said that this campaign, which is an integral part of the dementia strategy adopted by this Government, was launched a couple of weeks ago after its implementation had already started.
She mentioned that currently informational material is being distributed in public places around Malta, including Polyclinics, Day Centres for the Elderly, and various Governmental Departments.
She also said that presently there is an open call for applications for the specialised team of professionals in dementia to work with persons with dementia and their families in the community.
The Parliamentary Secretary urged more people to participate in the campaign by putting forward their ideas to the Secretariat and follow the campaign on the official website www.dementia.gov.mt, on Facebook and on Twitter.
She concluded by thanking all the personalities and local media that are supporting this campaign and that will be instrumental for an efficient and effective campaign.
