The Bank of Valletta is renewing its support towards the Victoria International Arts Festival. Spanning over one month, and featuring 35 events between the 10th of June and the 13th of July, saying that, “this is one of the leading festivals on the islands.”
The inaugural concert tomorrow evening, Wednesday, the 10th of June will feature the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Mro Joseph Vella, which Bank of Valletta also supports as part of its Corporate Responsibility.
On a visit to the BOV Centre, the Artistic Director, Mro Joseph Vella explained, “the Victoria International Arts Festival has not only retained its place as a permanent fixture on the country’s cultural calendar, but, as from this year, it has been honoured with the prestigious EFFE (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe) label. Acceptance under this label intimates that our Festival stands for ‘artistic quality and has a significant impact on the local, national and international level’.”
Kenneth Micallef, Head CEO Office congratulated Mro Vella for the high artistic level achieved in this year’s programme. “It is of great satisfaction for Bank of Valletta to support an artistic programme of this level that keeps growing and improving year on year. Featuring over 400 performers from 18 different nationalities, this Festival offers audiences a broad spectrum of performing arts ranging from the medieval era to the present day.”
He also commented about the significant contribution that such events give to the tourism industry, by attracting visitors that are keen to attend such performances, thereby giving our islands artistic prominence internationally, as the EFFE recognition proves.
This year’s programme showcases over 240 works by 136 composers. The Festival also boasts two exhibitions, one by Gozitan artist an art historian Mark Sagona, whilst the other is a jewellery exhibition by the Italian company OPALIA.
The events will be spread across seven venues in Victoria Gozo, including the spectacular roof-top at Il-HaKar Heart of Gozo Museum. All concerts and events are free of charge.
