Police treating the death of woman in Gozo as suspiciousUpdate: The Police have said that it is treating the death of an elderly woman in Gozo as “suspicious.” The body of a woman was found lying face down in a pool of water yesterday afternoon in Tal-Kapuccini Valley, limits of Victoria, Gozo.

A Police statement said that she was found naked and a search of the area is still ongoing for her clothing.

A Crime Conference was held earlier this evening, during which Assistant Commissioner Silvio Valletta, said that the results of an autopsy carried out today had been inconclusive, mainly due to the body’s advanced stage of decomposition. The woman has not yet been identified, and forensic tests are taking place to assist with her identification.

He explained that the woman had suffered a blow to her head, bruises to her chest and a broken rib. Adding that although the wounds she suffered could have been due to foul play, they could also be the result of a fall, with several places she could have fallen from near where she was  found.

A 72-year-old Danish woman was reported missing to the police on Friday.

Investigations into the case are being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department and District Police, who are treating this case as a suspicious death.

The Police have requested that anyone who has information that might assist with the investigations should call 119.
