Gharb football Ground officially opened by Dr Justyne Caruana

This week the Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of People with Disability and Active Ageing, Dr Justyne Caruana, officially opened the completed embellishment works of the Perit Wigi Portelli Football Ground in Gharb, Gozo. Also present with Dr Caruana was the Mayor of Gharb David Apap Agius.
Dr Caruana praised the Gharb Local Council in its work to further improve the lives of the village residents. She added that at an efficient administration together with the cooperation of those who will benefit, is the foundation of any project in order that it can be enjoyed by everyone.
The Parliamentary Secretary added that it would be unfortunate if these projects were to be vandalised, “Gharb residents should be proud of this large recreation area, now comprising of a football ground, a Leisure Park and Belvedere.
Dr Caruana said that as the person who is responsible for the disabled and the elderly, she was working tirelessly to ensure that these people are given the opportunity to truly feel equal, even through sports.
On this note, Justyne Caruana praised the athletes of the Special Olympics Malta team, who brought home 24 medals, as well as honour to Malta and Gozo. “The Government also showed its support to these teams,” she said.
Speaking about active ageing, the Parliamentary Secretary explained that a few weeks ago an agreement was reached with the Kercem Ajax Football Club for the use of its Fitness Centre by the elderly, according to programmes adapted especially for them.
Dr Caruana added this was just the beginning for these types of projects and that she looked forward to working hand in hand with the Gharb Local Council as well as other entities in the village.
The Parliamentary Secretary concluded her message by congratulating the players and all those who will be making use of these new facilities.
