Next Monday, The Gozo Youth Wind Band will be presenting an innovative and spectacular concert, its first ever in this type of setting, namely a stage on the sea – Stage and Proms on the Sea.
The concert will feature pop singers -Sarah Bonnici and Joseph Refalo interpreting various roles, and a large floating pontoon will serve as the stage to accommodate the 60 musicians, who will be presenting a full scale concert against the perfect backdrop of Mgarr Harbour.
Apart from on-stage lighting that will enhance the evening, special submergible lighting features will also create visual effects in the picturesque main harbour of Gozo.
In order to offer something different to the public who will attend this outdoor musical evening, the band are proposing to bring to Gozo a colourful and audience-participating repertoire reminiscent of London West-End shows and evergreen masterpieces from the Proms.
The audience will be able to enjoy a variety of excerpts and medleys from musicals and classic encores performed in the BBC Proms Final Night held at The Royal Albert Hall.
Stage and Proms on the Sea, is taking place on Monday, the 31st of August, starting at 8.30pm. Entrance is free of charge (standing), however tickets will be available to purchase, in support of the Gozo Youth Wind Band and Orchestra, for the Premium VIP Designated Seated area, and the price will include a welcome drink, tris of pasta and dessert.

The event is being held in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo, the MTA, J Portelli Projects, Valletta 2018, Gozo Culture and Information Office, Coca Cola, Visit Gozo and Mgarr Marina.
What a great idea.
Stage a concert on a Monday night – when the single road to the harbour will be choked by the Maltese going home.
Why are you being so negative when we are so lucky to have wonderful things like this staged for us – some people are never happy!!
The only ‘choked’ road was down by the harbour with people looking for a park!
I am sure many people enjoyed the show.
It was a wonderful evening in a very imaginative setting and I hope it becomes a fixture in the cultural calendar. Congratulations and a large ‘Thank You’ to all involved in the organisation of the event. As for transport to and from the harbour I hope that those who are able-bodied used the main car park in Victoria as a ‘park and ride’* to solve the problem of returning home late at night and as a means to reduce traffic problems for those less able.
*For those unfamiliar with the term ‘park and ride’ = park your car and ride on the bus.
