Kercem Active Aging Project to continue permanently

During a visit to one of the sessions of Kercem Active Aging Center today, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing, Dr Justyne Caruana, announced that this project will be continued on a permanent basis.

Dr Caruana said that this was decided following the outstanding success of this project, which now boasts over 200 elderly Gozitans who are participating in daily sessions with a varied program of activities.

During her visit, the Parliamentary The Secretary met with seniors who were participating in today's session and also listened to their views on the prospect of this project operating on a permanent basis.

Dr Caruana explained that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing has created a program for seniors which keeps them physically active and improves their quality of life as well as their health. At the same time seniors are meeting with peers and making new friends, thus promoting inclusion and socialization as well.

The Parliamentary Secretary thanked all of the seniors for attending this pilot project, as well as for having believed in this project from the beginning. She also thanked all instructors for the excellent work that they do.

Dr Caruana also mentioned the new Xewkija Active Aging Center which will soon commence operating, and which is already receiving numerous applications.
