Gozo Greyhound Sports Club 2016 has formed the first Gozo cycling team! Louis Debattista has said that apart from himself, the other three dedicated cyclists include, Domnic, Malcolm and Brandon, who have been training hard to get themselves ready to compete.

Last Sunday the Gozo Greyhounds Cycling team went to compete in their first race. They were on the 6:00am ferry for the race at Zebbug bypass in Malta, organised by the Mosta Cycling Club.

"Dominic raced in the Elite category (18 to 40 years), Brandon in the Junior (under 18) and I raced in the 40 plus," said Louis.

"Our Gozitan Junior, Brandon, achieved 3rd place in the 70km race! This is quite an accomplishment, especially considering that Brandon only began cycling seriously in 2015!"

Louis added, "we are happy to be representing Gozo and hope to make Gozo proud. We encourage any Gozitans interested in competitive cycling to join us: men and women, youngsters and juniors, are all welcome."

"We meet regularly to ride and train together- check Gozo Greyhounds Facebook or call me on 99609845 if you are interested in meeting up to ride. I also take kids out every Saturday morning for a ride; we meet at Qala Local Council and cycle to different places in Gozo and newcomers are welcome."

Louis gave a big thank you to Joe Bajada (from Gozo), the new General Secretary for the Malta Cycling Federation. "We thank him for his encouragement and support."

A reminder that a charity ride is taking place for the Arka Foundation on Wednesday, the 10th of February (Public Holiday). Registration at 10:00 at Arka and Ride at 10:30 to Ta' Pinu and back.

"A reminder to drivers: please slow down when you see cyclists, especially kids on bikes. We all need to share the roads and be safe," said Louis.
