The Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat said today that the project of residential housing for disabled persons situated within the community, fits perfectly with the concept that this Government believes in.

He was speaking during a visit to inspect the work being carried out at one of these new residential homes, which is situated in Tac-Cawla, Victoria, and is expected to host about ten residents.

The Prime Minister explained that these homes will be of a normal size construction, not huge institutions, and that they will be within the centre of the locality, which means that the residents will be an important part of community life and not be cut off from society.

“This was all able to take place following the issue of an Expression of Interest for the Supply of Residential Homes and Services for the Disabled in Gozo.” The purchase contract was signed on the property at the end of February.

The Prime Minister explained that this project is a landmark in the social sector, enabling independent living for persons with disability.

The Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Dr Justyne Caruana, said that the renovation work on the Tac-Cawla residence is going according to schedule and is expected to be completed be the end of October, so that they can begin to welcome the first residents by the end of this year.
