Gozo Greyhounds Sports Club with Gozo Rocks Clean & Green Hikes will be on the move again tomorrow, (Sunday) for a clean-up hike, this time from Dwejra to San Dimitri to Gharb.
Organiser Louis Debattista said that it would be really nice to see more Gozitans and Maltese taking part and enjoying the countryside, particularly in such beautiful weather! The route can be seen on the map above.
There will be transport from the Qala Local council at 1pm, and Louis said that they can make westbound stops to pick up just before Xewkija round-about (cemetery) and by the Sannat playground.
For those driving, they will pass by Sannat at 1:15pm, parking is available near the playground.
A small group went out on a clean-up hike last Sunday, it was an international mixture again from France, England, South Africa, Louis's own family from America, to name but a few….
Louis said that he would especially want to thank the grown-ups for carrying all the bags for the last 4km to the destination. "I could not have done it without them!"
"We managed to walk 6.6Km and collected 15 bags and 2 car batteries (thanks Marc from France for the help!). It was not easy to carry all the bags on the paths with the wind buffering us around."
Louis made a request to hunters or trappers, saying that he has "nothing against what you do, but please clean up those shell casings from the ground. Way back they used to refill the shells, and they were getting picked up from the ground so they could be reused, but today ammunition is cheap and it's not worth all that trouble."
Louis added, "trappers, please don't throw your plastic bottles (water, soda, etc). The bottles are empty, much lighter when you carried them there, full – just take the empties back with you! All around the trap is clean and clear from all trash but away from the trap it is all trashed especially behind where you sit and hide. Please again take care the environment as well."
You can keep up to date with information on the hikes on the Gozo Rocks Clean & Green Hikes facebook page.

Well done Louis, now you have the biggest challenge ever by removing & picking up all the garbage left over by the visitors mainly the > Maltese < in Victoria Nadur and other villages.when the carnival is over.
Fair play to you louis now you started something just have to press on and clean Gozo.. Rather You then Me my friend.
One thing for sure, you’ll be never out of work, cause as soon as you guys cleanup the countryside the sooner it gets full of throw away plastics, fridges, washing mac’s & what not, lately i have seen old tyres & refuse during our country walks in Qala, its a shame really
