Kaccaturi San Ubertu (KSU) has in a statement, referred to what it describes as, "conflicting media reports regarding the proposed development at' Ta' Cenc, a Natura 2000 site that includes a Special Protection Area for birds according to the EU Birds Directive."

KSU said that according to BirdLife Malta reports, "whose founder co-designated such areas," this development "at least 50m away from the nesting site, will seemingly not disrupt the nesting routines of seawater birds."

"BirdLife Malta benefitted from EU Life + and other funds to the tune of €1,356,695.00 and more to protect and offer advice on our birds. Among these their EU Life+ Malta Seabird and Yelkouan Shearwater projects relate to the majority of breeding birds at Ta' Cenc," said KSU.

KSU added that it "concurred with the arguments and strong criticism directed at BirdLife Malta made by the learned environmentalist Alfred E. Baldacchino, a former BirdLife General Secretary," who "strongly disassociates" himself from Birdlife's assessment of this development.

KSU concluded by saying that it augurs professional advice is sought whenever Environment Impact Assessments are commissioned especially in sites considered to be a `centrepiece of European nature legislation.' "Clearly the know-it-all attitude of certain organisations concerning our flora and fauna is not to be taken seriously," stated KSU.
