Zminijietna – Voice of the Left, has said in a statement today that the Government should enforce work regulations to stop the exploitation of foreign workers and should also ratify the ILO Convention 1997 (No 181) with regards to the Private Employment Agencies.

Zminijietna went on to say, that the Government should translate into Maltese law this ILO Convention. "This will protect workers against abuses, guarantee the right to freedom of association and promote collective bargaining and social dialogue as necessary components of a well-functioning industrial relations system."

"Also the Government should take over the responsibility for the engagement of foreign workers when there is an undersupply of workers in sectors controlled by the state, such as the health and care sector," stated Zminijietna – Voice of the Left.
