Zminijietna – the left think tank organisation, has said in a statement that, “under a Public Private Partnership model (PPP) the public will become simply a client.”
It added that, “profits take priority over the service provided and the conditions of employment. PPP are a step towards full privatisation.”
“These arrangements for PPP were introduced in Malta under the previous administration, with the private sector taking over the control and responsibility for the development and the management of retirement homes,” said Zminijietna.
“Malta in fact spends €56.9 million in state-financed beds for the elderly each year,” it added.
Zminijietna argued that “the question behind public private partnerships is that in the end it is always the taxpayer that will pay for all the mistakes (or crooked dealings) done by the private management.”
“The public represented by the state should be in control of all essential services and not just be a client,” concluded Zminijietna.
