Zminijietna – Voice of the Left, has said in a statement that, "in these last years, Malta made history by introducing civil unions with the same rights and obligations as marriage and with the possibility of adopting children. Also, the law of gender identity helped to rectify the human rights breaches of the past, while putting an end to discrimination."

It added that, "this Bill has put Malta on the forefront of global recognition, also moving ahead on other member states in the European Union."

Zminijietna said that it hoped that these major milestones are followed by MPs putting forward a Bill which opens up marriage to all couples irrespective of their gender, including gay marriage.

"Subsequently, there is the need for a comprehensive framework for transgender with the aim of addressing their rights, eliminate discrimination in employment and that hormone treatments are given for free under the national public healthcare services."

"Apart from these, there is the need for more education and the setting up of facilities where the status of transgender people is protected, such as the case of imprisonment," stated Zminijietna – Voice of the Left.
