Industrial turnover increased by 0.1% in first quarter – NSO

Provisional seasonally adjusted industrial turnover in the first quarter of 2016 increased by 0.1 per cent over the previous quarter. Compared to the corresponding period last year, working-day adjusted industrial turnover decreased by 1.1 per cent, the National Statistics Office said today.
The growth in industrial turnover was due to increases in energy (2.3 per cent), capital goods (0.9 per cent) and consumer goods (0.8 per cent).
Seasonally adjusted industrial employment decreased by 0.4 per cent. During this period, hours worked adjusted for seasonal effects increased by 0.1 per cent, whereas the seasonally adjusted wages and salaries decreased by 0.8 per cent.
When compared to the first quarter of 2015, working-day adjusted turnover decreased by 1.1 per cent. This was mainly due to decreases in energy (13.7 per cent) and intermediate goods (5.1 per cent). On the other hand, turnover in consumer goods and capital goods went up by 7.1 and 3.4 per cent respectively.
Year-on-year unadjusted industrial employment decreased by 2.4 per cent. Industrial hours worked increased by 0.2 per cent while working-day adjusted industrial wages and salaries increased by 2.5 per cent.
