Passengers and vehicles crossing to Gozo both up in second quarter

In the second quarter of 2016, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered increases compared to the corresponding quarter of 2015, the National Statistics Office said today.

A total of 1,319,541 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo during the second quarter this year, up by 4.0 per cent when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2015.

The highest number of passengers was recorded in June – 464,638 or 35.2 per cent of the total for the quarter. The number of vehicles increased by 4.4 per cent, totalling 363,779.

The number of trips amounted to 5,426, an increase of 5.6 per cent over the same period in 2015. The majority of trips took place in June – 1,908 or 35.2 per cent of total trips for the quarter.

During the first six months, passenger traffic originating from Cirkewwa was busiest on Saturday and Friday, whereas highest numbers from Mgarr were recorded on Sunday and Saturday.
