The Ukrainian Air Force has confirmed its participation with a flying display of one of its frontline jets, the Sukhoi Su-27 'Flanker,' for the first time ever at the Malta International Airshow.

The Su-27 is a world known fighter plane, famous for its manoeuvrability, especially for two unusual manoeuvres – Cobra and Bell. The Sukhoi-27, named Flanker in NATO code, is the Soviet production, single seat, two-engine fighter plane of the fourth generation. It was developed as an answer to the USAF F-15 Eagle.An Ilyushin Il-76 transport aircraft that will also be part of the static display making the aircraft the first ever Il-76 to participate and also the largest transport aircraft to ever participate in the static display, will support the flanker's display in Malta.

Ilyushin Il-76, named Candid in NATO code, is the Soviet multi-purpose four-engine turbofan strategic airlifter designed by the Ilyushin design bureau.

It was designed to deliver heavy machinery to remote, poorly served areas of the USSR. Military versions of the Il-76 have been widely used in Europe, Asia and Africa, including use as an aerial refuelling tanker or command centre.

This year's edition of the show, on the 24th and 25th of September, will feature two distinct venues, as the aerial display moves over to Smart City Malta, while the static display will remain at the airport.
