The Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs through 34 U is yet again embarking on a tree planting weekend from the 14th to the 16th of November at Ghajn Tuffieha. This event has a dual purpose: to promote the importance of trees as part of our environment and also to encourage people to adopt a tree in sites earmarked for afforestation purposes. During the last four years, more than 50,000 trees have been planted under this scheme.

Tomorrow, Friday the 14th of November has been earmarked for participation by local schools while the 15th and 16th from 9:00am to 4:00pm will be available for the general public. During this 3 day event the Ministry is not only organising a tree planting exercise but also preparing a weekend packed with activities for all members of the family including food stalls and pony rides. In addition there will be the distribution of small packs of seeds of local endemic trees free of charge to all children attending. The general public is therefore urged to get used yogurt tubs or small plastic water bottles to be used as a recycled pot. Peat and planting instructions will also be provided.

Each tree costs a modest sum of €14 and the price includes a wooden commemorative tag attached to the tree plus a photo certificate that is sent by post to each participant.

For Corporate Companies the Ministry will be planting trees at the alternative site of Mellieha by appointment.

Anyone wishing to participate can do so by calling on 2295 2333 or 22952233. Requests can also be sent to 34U@gov.mt
