"More critical minds, free thought and physical exercise, rather that the commodification of everything," says AD.

In a visit to Freshers' Week at the University of Malta, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola said, "It is good to see so much space devoted to the various students' associations that promote positive activities ranging from literature to scientific societies, from environmental to equality to sports associations."

He added, "it is good that Freshers' week promotes those organisations and activities that encourage more critical minds, free thought and physical exercise."

Prof Cassola concluded by saying that "involving oneself in a student organisation many times also means contributing to the general welfare of society not only by creating awareness on particular issues but also by taking part in direct actions which can benefit the weaker strata of society. Student participation is a good antidote to the idea of materialistic commodification, which is quite prevailing in Maltese society nowadays."
