On the occasion of the international day dedicated to people with disabilities, Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Dr Justyne Caruana, inaugurated a community residence in Gozo as part of the Socjetà Gusta (Fair Society) project. It is the fourth of ten such residences planned.

Dar il-Gublew tal-Hniena in Ghajnsielem is a joint project in partnership between the Arka Foundation, and the Government with an investment of around € 350,000.

Dr Caruana said that this ambitious project of the Government in aid of the disabled sector serves to link a single mission: the quality of life for these people in the community.

Justyne Caruana added that Mgr Manwel Curmi, founder of Dar Arka, had dreamed of a home such as this in Ghajnsielem. “It is now a reality, precisely on the international day for the disabled.”

Dar il-Gublew tal-Hniena will be able to welcome and accommodate five people and the services to be provided will comply fully with the standards set recently for homes for persons with disabilities, the Parliamentary Secretary said.
