Industrial producer price index went down by 1.87% in December

During December last year, the industrial producer price index registered a decrease of 1.87 per cent when compared to the corresponding month of 2015, the National Statistics Office said today.
This was due to a drop of 2.86 per cent in intermediate goods and 2.01 per cent within consumer goods. This decrease was mitigated by an increase of 0.50 per cent in capital goods. No price changes occurred in the energy sector.
Producer prices for the domestic market increased by 0.41 per cent. Price increases were recorded in the industrial sectors of intermediate goods (0.64 per cent), consumer goods (0.54 per cent) and capital goods (0.43 per cent).
Non-domestic prices fell by 3.43 per cent due to decreases of 3.55 per cent within the non-euro area and 3.24 per cent within the euro area.
During December last year, the producer price index for total industry declined by 0.16 per cent over the previous period. This was due to a drop in prices for intermediate goods by 0.45 per cent. On the contrary, prices for consumer goods increased by 0.14 per cent. No changes were registered in prices for the energy and capital goods sectors.
Domestic market prices rose by 0.26 per cent due to an increase of 0.96 per cent within intermediate goods. No variations were registered in the other categories.
Prices for the non-domestic market decreased by 0.45 per cent. This was due to a decline of 0.50 per cent in the prices within the non-euro area and by 0.37 per cent within the euro area.
