A photographic exhibition – Gozo – Faces of Culture – by Gozitan photographer Daniel Cilia has been opened in Brussels.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, who said that “our islands’ historical experience renders easy the task of defining our Mediterranean identity. Malta’s active participation in the European Union has made this Mediterranean identity even more pronounced.”

“This exhibition brings to the fore, Gozo’s intrinsic beauty and the multitude of facets which constitute the soul of Gozo and its inhabitants,” Dr Refalo said.

The Minister went on to point out that “our way of life, our aspirations, our way of thinking, the perception of ourselves as well as that of the whole region around us, all attributed to the Maltese Islands’ role as a bridge between North and South, and between East and West.”

He added that “size does not matter and endless opportunities can be achieved through closer political and business relations with the European Union.”

Dr Refalo stressed that “the Ministry for Gozo is full of enthusiasm to technically explore and identify sectors which could be more fruitful in terms of collaboration.”
“Gozo is an island with a history spanning more than seven thousand years. It is the place where history and an amazing natural landscape intermingle and embrace each other.”

Dr Refalo also mentioned the Azure Window, one of the island’s main icons that had collapsed a couple of weeks ago, due to a natural process of erosion.

The Minister spoke about the country’s diplomatic efforts for the restoring of peace among Mediterranean nations and cultures to which Malta remains deeply committed. He affirmed that “There can’t be peace in Europe without peace in the Mediterranean, and this is now clear more than ever: there can’t be peace in the world without peace in the Mediterranean.”

Speaking on tourism and its connection to the property market, Dr Refalo noted that Gozo attracts all type of tourists and is the idyllic destination to invest in holiday property. “Gozo has proven itself as a home away from home for decades as we are slowly seeing a second generation of expatriates coming to settle in Gozo.”

“Higher-end property has also made a quantum leap in these last decades so that it may now really complement and meet the needs and expectations of anyone that might be interested in relocating to Gozo,” said the Minister for Gozo.
