Zminijietna – Voice of the Left is urging the Planning Authority to withdraw a building permit for a two-storey house in Ghar Gherduf Kercem.

Joining forces with other organisations who have voiced their disapproval of the building work, Zminijietna said, “the approved development is threatening the existence of the only remaining Roman Catacombs to be found in Gozo.”

It added that, “the area surrounding the Gozo’s Roman catacombs should be expropriated, to serve as a buffer zone, so to protect the historical site from any future development.”

Zminijietna concluded by saying that, “the site and surrounding area have been classified as Class A protected archaeological site, since the year 2000.
