Number of unemployed persons continues to fall in May – NSO

2,502 persons were registering for work in May, this compares to 3,511 in the corresponding month last year, the National Statistics Office said today.All age groups except those of under 20 registered decreases.
Jobsplus data indicate a decrease of 943 persons registering under Part I and a decrease of 66 among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register, when compared to last year.
Registrants for work decreased irrespective of how long they had been registering. compared to last year.
The NSO noted that the largest decrease was recorded among persons who had been registering for less than 21 weeks.
Persons with a disability who were registering for work also decreased by 66 to 283. Males accounted for 67.5 per cent of total registrants with a disability, the NSO said.
It added that, males and females on the unemployment register, as the larges share, sought occupations as clerical support workers, with 19.3 per cent and 38.8 per cent respectively.
