According to data today from the National Statistics Office, the number of guests and nights spent in Gozo and Comino collective accommodation establishments in August, went up by 7.5 per cent and 7.7 per cent on 2016, to 11,641 and 49,295 respectively.

The NSO noted that compared to last year, the average length of stay in Gozo and Comino remained stable at 4.2 nights. The net occupancy rate rose by 2.5 percentage points to 73.7 per cent

In the first eight months of the year, the total number of guests in Gozo and Comino went up by 11.52 per cent to 65,061, in 2016 the figure stood at 58,339.

On a national basis, the total number of guests and nights spent in collective accommodation establishments during August advanced by 10.7 and 4.8 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding month in 2016.

The NSO said that, total guests in collective accommodation establishments numbered 186,140, while total nights spent amounted to 1,123,158.

The 4-star hotels registered the largest increase in total nights spent. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 534,203 nights, or 47.6 per cent of the total.

On a national level, the average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went down to 6.0 nights in August 2017 from 6.4 nights in the same month of 2016. The net use of bed-places stood at 84.9 per cent, up by 1.1 percentage points when compared to the corresponding month last year.

There were 188 active collective accommodation establishments during August in Malta and Gozo, with a net capacity of 18,630 bedrooms and 42,744 bed-places.

The NSO added that the total guests in Malta numbered 174,499, up by 10.9 per cent over August 2016. Additionally, an increase of 4.7 per cent was recorded in the number of nights spent.

It said that the average length of stay in Malta went down by 0.3 of a night to 6.2, when compared with the same month last year. The net occupancy rate in Malta increased by 1.0 percentage points, reaching 85.5 per cent, over the same month of 2016.

The total guests on a national level in the first eight months of 2017 amounted to 1,218,687, an increase of 13.5 per cent over the same period in 2016. Total nights spent went up by 6.2 per cent, reaching almost 6.5 million. The net use of bed-places advanced by 2.2 percentage points to 67.3 per cent.
