Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party has said it strongly condemns the bloody escalation of events in Gaza recently, where an Israeli air strike has left over 150 victims, including innocent civilians.

Arnold Cassola, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, stated: “Alternattiva Demokratika condemns unreservedly the provocation by Hamas against Israeli territory but likewise refutes the “tooth for tooth, eye for eye” payback of the Israeli authorities.”

“We appeal to the leaders in the Middle East to come back to their senses and to refute the logic of spiraling violence. We look forward to illuminated political leaders who are ready to seriously sit at the negotiating table to explore all ways forward towards final and binding peace in such a war torn area, where the Palestinian and Israeli civilians are the real victims.”

Mark Scerri, Alternattiva Demokratika Spokesperson for International Affairs, added: “The Malta Green Party joins the international community in asking for a solution that recognizes the right of the Israeli and the Palestinian people to live together peacefully as two peoples in two neighboring states, in full respect of each other’s rights.”

Mark Scerri concluded: “We ask Prime Minister Gonzi to ask EU Council President Sarkozy and the incoming Czech Presidency to urgently convene a meeting of the EU-27 countries, in order to handle this very serious threat to security to the peoples in the Middle East and the whole Mediterranean area.”
