Update: This morning, Ronald Mallia was arraigned in court in connection with last week’s phone call of a bomb threat on the Gozo Channel ferry service.

He pleaded guilty to the charges of making a false report, causing Gozo Channel employees to fear violence, and misuse of communications equipment and networks.

The 30-year, who is from Mosta, was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €20,000, his parents are to stand as guarantors. There is to be a pre-sentencing report carried out , and sentencing will be given at a later date.

The hoax call caused major disruptions to the ferry service, after they were suspended for some hours during the day, as the ships and vehicles were searched, with queues building up on both sides of the channel.

Gozo Minister, Dr Justyne Caruana, had described the bomb threat on Gozo Channel as “an act of cowardice to be condemned.”
