During the inauguration of the exhibition on the well known English artist Victor Pasmore at the National Museum of Fine Art, Mr Michael Bonello, Director of the Central Bank, announced that the bank will be presenting, an original painted wooden sculpture by Pasmore to the National Museum of Fine Art to form part of the national collection. This had been used as a model to be copied in marble for the lobby of the Bank’s new anexe within the Valletta ramparts.

This is not the first time that the Central Bank has enriched the national collection. Some years ago, the Bank presented on permanent loan a very important painting, Christ Driving the Traders from the Temple by the Maltese artist Giuseppe Grech, who had died very young. Only a handful of works by this artist are known to exist.

The Victor Pasmore exhibition will remain open until February the 10th. On the 20th of February the exhibition will be put up at the Heritage Malta office at the Cittadela in Victoria Gozo where it will remain open to the public until April the 17th. Admission to the exhibitons is free.

Heritage Malta has also published a researched catalogue of Pasmore’s exhibition, written by Katya Borg in collaboration with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and MidSea Books. The catlogue is available from the National Museum of Fine Arts, South Street, Valletta, against a donation. It will also be available from Gozo in February during the exhibition.

On February the 5th Katia Borg will be delivering a public lecture on Victor Pasmore. The lecture will be held at the heritage Malta Head Office in Merchants Street Valletta at 18.00 hrs. Admission is free of charge.
