Around 558 vehicles were stopped and checked last night by the Police Traffic Branch together with the assistance of the Dog Section.

Police said that the road safety operations were carried out in Bahar ic-Caghaq, Birkirkara, Burmarrad, Mellieha, Mgarr, Naxxar, Saint Paul’s Bay, Lija, Pembroke, Msida, Saint Julian’s, Qormi, Marsaskala, Tarxien, Zejtun, Luqa, Gudja, Floriana and Paceville.

Police added that several persons were stopped and fined for traffic breaches including driving without a valid driving licence, driving without a valid insurance policy, driving without a seat belt, vehicle being driven with false number plates, among others breaches.

“Three persons were also stopped after they were making use of a vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol.”
