A Symphonic Opening in Gozo with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra

A Symphonic Opening concert taking place in Gozo next month will be celebrating Marcelline Agius, on her 25th anniversary as leader of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert also marks the start of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music 2019 and will feature Marcelline Agius on violin, with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Colin Attard,.
Agius will take the solo role in Vaughan Williams’ enchanting `The Lark Ascending’ and in Attard’s work – originally composed for the film Lehen mill-Kwadru.
The programme for the evening also includes features Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony:
Gioachino Rossini – Il Barbiere di Siviglia Overture
Colin Attard – Lejn Hajja Ahjar
Ralph Vaughan Williams – The Lark Ascending
Maurice Ravel – Pavane pour une infante défunte
Franz Schubert – Symphony No. 9 “Unfinished”
Organised in collaboration with the Gozo Curia, the concert is part of the celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of the titular altar painting at Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary.
The Symphonic Opening is taking place on Saturday, the 9th of March, at the Gozo Cathedral, starting at 7.30pm. Entrance is free of charge, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
