Exploring new niches and business cooperation for Gozo

Having attended and addressed a special session of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels, the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana also took the opportunity to participate in a number of bilateral meetings.

The Ministry for Gozo, in a statement said that these meetings were intended to “explore new niches of cooperation and trade under the vision that the Ministry for Gozo is implementing, the main ones being that of research and innovation, quality tourism and technological advancement among others.”

Taking the opportunity to explain the advances that Gozo has made, Dr Caruana said that these achievements should encourage new initiatives and collaboration with various sectors of particular interest to Gozo.

Minister Caruana explained that she had productive meetings with the Cruise Lines International Association, where together with the Secretary General Tom Boardley, discussed the potential for Gozo to attract quality passenger ships.

Other meetings were held with the Europena Business Network, the EU/China Association as well as the European Regions Research and Innovations Network.

During these meetings, the Minister said that discussions took place on new economic niches of international collaboration with both European and international stakeholders.

Minister Caruana concluded by saying that she was “optimistic that from these meetings will benefit Gozo in the near future in several areas, both through the advantageous financing package the Ministry for Gozo is offering to foreign investors to relocate to Gozo, as well as infrastructure investment taking place with the Gozo Innovations Hub and the laying of a second fibre optic cable.”
