The JP2 Foundation of Gozo celebrated the liturgical feast, which fell on Tuesday, of Pope John Paul II with a number of events.
The events started on Sunday, when in collaboration with the Ghajnsielem Local Council and St Joseph Band Club, the JP2 Foundation hosted the Bromley High School Jazz Orchestra an Choir from the Uk, who had previously performed two concerts in Mdina and Mosta.
During these concerts, which were well received, the students sang excerpts from well known musicals, including My Favourite Thing from the Musical Sound of Music, Moon River, Summer time, What a Wonderful World, When I Fall In Love, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed by those present.
On Monday evening at the Church of Our Lady of Loreto in Ghajnsielem, Jacob Portelli on harp and Emese Toth on the violin performed a Duo Recital which included among others the Ave Maria of Caccini, Queen of Sheeba, Handel, ‘Laudate Dominum’ and ‘Voi che Sapete of Mozart, the Intermezz from ‘Cavalleria Rusticana of Mascagni, O Mio Babbino Caro’ and “Nessun Dorma of Puccini and others.
Then on Tuesday, the JP2 Foundation in collaboration with the Ghajnsielem Primary School, organised a Manifestation for the school children with videos and information about this Polish prelate. The childre were also addressed by the parish archpriest.
In the evening a high Mass took place at Our Lady of Loreto Parish Church by Monsignor Joseph Attard, who for a long time was a Parish Priest in Rome and met and worked with Pope John Paul II.
The Mass was animated by the parish choir. Rev.Can. Frank Bajada Archpriest and Fr. Joe Calleja, who was ordained by Pope John Paul II, concelebrated during the Mass.
The JP2 Foundation said that it is at the moment holding Educational, Cultural and Spiritual Events as part of the preparative year, to mark in 2020 the 100 years since the birth of Karol Wojtyla and the 30th anniversary of the first Pontiff visit to Gozo.
