Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has said that Triq Sant’ Antnin in Ghajnsielem will open temporarily from Thursday.
He explained that this is being done because there is no other adequate alternative route and it will give better access for locals and tourists visiting Gozo in the coming days.
The Minister said that this month it is expected that an influx of Maltese and tourists will be visiting Gozo for the Valentine’s Day weekend, followed by the regional Carnival, as well as the spontaneous Carnival in Nadur.
Meanwhile, he said that emergency roadworks will begin immediately on Zewwieqa Street, which is in a very bad state and dangerous for vehicles passing through.
Therefore, when works will resume on Anthony Street, Zewwieqa Street will serve as an alternative way for all residents of Qala, Nadur and part of Ghajnsielem.
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri explained that the reason behind these works is to improve both traffic management for Gozitans living in these areas, and to improve road safety in general for everyone visiting the island.
He concluded by saying that his priority remains in ensuring that roads in Gozo are of the same level as those in Malta, and therefore safe for people and vehicles passing through.

It might be helpful for the minister to know that St Anthony Street is actually classed as being “residential” – therefore no heavy traffic should be allowed to pass through it.
Revel. I don’t think the word ‘residential’ means anything when it’s used in circumstances that might hamper the ultimate goal of economic progress. Santa Lucija is about as residential as you can get, but it doesn’t stop dozens of quarry trucks trundling through there every day.
A lot of words don’t mean anything here. Nigel. In that, you are right.
We could start with the word, written at many a road junction, that simply says STOP.
I just thought that the new Minister maybe needed to know that there was a word for St Anthony Street, and that RESIDENTIAL is what the word was, and is.
Of course, he may interpret the word differently.
But if he needs to know what that English word means, in English, I would be more than happy to enlighten him.Any time.
How many years takes to fix this roads. They don’t even know when it will be completely done so inconveniences for locals is Okay but for visitors is not. Truly Gozitans are Second Class Citizens.
