Update: The Government has said that a man was found dead in his cell this morning at the Corradino Correctional Facility.
The statement said the 72-year old man was found at around 6.30am this morning.
He has been named locally as Mr Giani Attard, who was found guilty in November 2010, of aiding and abetting in the murder of Gozitan warden Fortunata Spiteri on the 10th of August 2001.
Mr Attard had been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Government said that District Police were informed immediately, an internal inquiry is being carried out, as well as a Magisterial inquiry.
