Gozitan Employees Working in Malta, has said that following yesterday’s case at Cirkewwa harbour, AGEM is proposing that “travelling between the islands is only conceded to citizens who have their permanent residence in Gozo.”

“This would see the introduction with immediate effect, new travelling restrictions in additions to the ones already announced by the Gozo Ministry,” the Association said.

In addition, to further safeguard all medical professionals, AGEM is urging the Government to announce “severe punitive measures for all individuals who provide false statements related to both travelling and quarantine to health authorities during testing and/or case finding process.”

The AGEM went on to say that it is “extremely satisfied that the majority of the preventive proposals brought forward to the Ministry for Gozo to safeguard the health of all Gozitan employees working in Malta were recognised by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, adding that it believes that the measures, “will further help to prevent the Covid-19 virus from reaching Gozo.”

AGEM also welcomed the issuance of Directive 13, allowing all workers in the public sector to avail themselves from ‘telework’ in a bid to avoid the spreading of the virus. “In this regard, AGEM encourages all Gozitan employees in the public sector to make use of this facility.”

The Association urged senior management teams in the public sector to “automatically accommodate the requests put forward by all Gozitan employees, who are exposed to an added risk of contracting the virus due to travelling.”

It also appealed to the private sector’s “sense of civic responsibility by allowing Gozitan workers in their respective companies to work from home. This because health matters should supersede issues of sector, grade and/or title.”

AGEM urged all Gozitan workers to take the necessary precautions, “to avoid unnecessary travel between the islands, and to always follow the advice given by the health authorities.”

The Association concluded by thanking all workers in the medical sector, the police force and the army, “who are working with great dedication and sacrifice around the clock for the best interest of the nation.”
