Since they started 10 days ago, over 2,500 spot-checks have been carried out on those who should be observing mandatory quarantine.

Minister for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri explained, “we increased fines from €1000 to €3000 for those found to be in breach of quarantine rules, whereas people who test positive for coronavirus and are ordered to self-isolate will be fined €10,000 every time they violate these orders.”

“The message is clear, the health of the Maltese people must never be put at risk,” said Minister Camilleri. “From the figures it is clear that the majority of people are cooperating with the police.”

“I want to thank our disciplined forces, the police, the Civil Protection Department, and our healthcare professionals for the coordinated manner in which they are working to protect the Maltese people,” stated Minister Camilleri.

The Minister appealed for the people to show their gratitude towards the services by following the instructions issued by the authorities.
