During Tuesday’s Covid-19 update, Supt of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci said that 9 new cases had been reported in the past 24-hours. The total number of cases now stands at 393, with 44 recovered.

Prof Gauci said that 1,051 swab tests had been carried out during the past 24-hours, with 19,921 swabs taken in total.

3 of the new cases were from the Hal Far Centre and had been found during 20 random tests that were made there.

Prof Gauci explained that all the new cases were locally transmitted, but in some cases the authorities have not been able to source how the virus had been contracted.

Health authorities over the past few days have made it clear that the “spread of Covid-19 is accelerating and that everyone should remain disciplined with regard to all directives currently in place.”

Authorities added that “the virus is spreading via local transmission and as such it is important to stay at home and to protect the elderly and vulnerable persons.”
