The dry-standing facility for boats in Xlendi is now almost complete, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has said today.
The Minister had said that the project was expected to be finished before the summer.
Minister Camilleri added that the facility will fully support the work of Gozitan fishermen while also regenerating this area within the picturesque bay.
The estimated cost of the project will be around €400,000 and is financed by the European Fund for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
The main works consisted of the reconstruction of the dry-standing area, namely the excavation of the entire site, placing imprint concrete, and building a new chamber for the winch.
All devices at the entire site have been replaced, meaning the winch device and the surrounding lights and CCTV cameras have also been newly installed.
Service pillars supplying electric power and water have also been introduced so that fishermen can repair and maintain their boats in a more comfortable and safe way.
Fire safety has also been taken into account, and therefore a fence was constructed around three sides of the site in order to isolate the dry-standing area from the rest of the site in case of fire.
An oil separation tank was introduced so that oils originating when servicing the boats will not end up in the sea.

This is another stupid project that was not needed. The Mgarr Marina should have had this facility and a 5 story parking lot built instead . Why people have to park a mile away to go to Xlendi. Its insane but this is Gozo no planning at all.
