Increased demand for blood as more surgeries are performedThe National Blood Transfusion Service has thanked the 41 donors who gave blood during the session held in Gozo on Mother’s Day.

The Service went on to say that now more surgeries are being performed in hospitals across the Maltese Islands, it is leading to increased demand for blood, and therefore more donors, all blood types are needed.

Faced with this growing need, the Service is urging Gozitans to please donate at a session this Sunday the 24th of May at the Blood Donation Centre in Xewkija, Gozo, between 8:00pm and 1:00pm (last registration until 1:00pm).

The Service said that in light of the Covid-19 outbreak it is important to be reassured that when donating blood “your health will not be put at risk.”

The donation centre is located at the Xewkija Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.

The Service advised that if anyone has any questions about blood donation in connection with Covid-19 they are invited to call between 8am until 6pm on 80074313 of 79307307 or for more information. As a basic rule, anyone who is in quarantine can not give blood.

The Service reminds everyone that it is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, please encourage others to donate if possible.
