The Planning Authority has advised that no demolition and excavation works will be permitted within tourism areas during the summer months of the 1st of July and 30th of September.
The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) has identified the tourism areas where demolition and excavation works will not be permitted during the coming three months of summer.
The Planning Authority said that this year, due to the unprecedented circumstances that the country has faced in the past months, all demolition and excavation works carried out in tourism areas are being authorised to continue between the 15th of June and 30th of June.
In a statement the Planning Authority said that “the legal notice mitigates the nuisance that such sites have on both the tourism industry and the number of Maltese families who move to their summer residence. Demolition and excavation phases at a construction site are by far the greatest inconvenience for the surrounding neighbourhood.”
The Authority concluded by saying that “if there are any streets that you wish to see included in next year’s Tourist Areas List, please send a request to the MTA via an email to your Local Council for onward transmission to the Malta Tourism Authority by the 31st of August.”
Any illegal demolition and excavation works carried out between the 1st of July – 30th of September 2020, in the identified localities and streets, may be reported to the Planning Authority on telephone number 2290 0000.

The MTA is the Competent Authority to identify the localities and streets where demolition or excavation works cannot be carried out. The MTA said that it reserves the right to change or amend the list of streets as it deems necessary.

For visitors we are willing to do anything but for locals forget about it. Its ok to have vendors with trucks blowing the horns from early mornings till late afternoons.
No problem with the vendors but much of the construction noise does not come fron demolition and excavation, it is from builders cutting stone with band saws and circular saws together with the ones using routers and angle grinders to channel walls for plumbing and wiring!
