The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo, has launched the booklet which is a collection of writings about animals – Ahna Tfal Hbieb tal-Annimali – at the Gozo College Victoria Primary School.
The launch was held with the participation of the Directorate for the Protection of Animals during the Skolasaijf session.
This was the first initiative of its kind during SkolaSajf where children were given the opportunity to be the protagonists in this collection of drawings, accompanied by descriptions from the children, as well as writings and poems in both Maltese and English.
This year, the Animal Welfare Directorate also launched a competition with students encouraged to produce drawings of their favourite animals, with prizes awarded to the winners.
Minister Refalo said that, “the purpose of these initiatives is to continue to inspire children’s love for animals. The main thinking behind this initiative was inspired by the fact that performance is important in every person’s life. Love for animals makes us more complete.”
He thanked all the staff of the Directorate as well as the Foundation for Educational Services with which the Directorate works in coordination. He also thanked David Muscat and Trevor Zahra who judged and selected the best writings from those submitted.
